The happenstance beginning of my journey from chaos to calm…. with blessings and humility to all of my teachers along the way.

Seemingly arbitrary events sometimes become milestones in our lives. It was serendipitous that I found myself at Yoga Nidra training at Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. I didn’t even know what Yoga Nidra was, let alone the impact it would have on my life. It just so happened that I had made plans for that particular long weekend and the person with whom I was meeting cancelled at the last minute. I already had made all the arrangements to be away so there was a big void in my vacation schedule. I went online to try and find something interesting to do. I had always wanted to do a yoga weekend, and lo and behold, there was an opening.

Long story short, it was amazing. I arrived as stressed out as could be and while I was not transformed then and there, I left with a glimpse of “what could be” for a happier and more fulfilling life. The retreat consisted of 5 days of Yoga Nidra Immersion led by Kamani Desai. In this workshop, I experienced incredible moments of calmness and serenity. I was hooked. And for the next 2 years, I listened to the Yoga Nidra audio from Kamini Desai every morning and every night. It became an essential part of my daily routine.

I also read dozens of books authored by a variety of Buddhist teachers, psychologists, and other authors with various specializations on an array of topics covering self-improvement, mindfulness, and meditation over the past three years. In addition, special thanks for the help from Lona Stranieri, LCSW. Her practical lessons in mindfulness helped me translate and incorporate the teachings into my own life, and gain a new perspective on issues in which I was “stuck” in negative patterns of thinking.  I could now see the same world through a different lens.

And the biggest blessings go to my mom, who was on her own path of awareness and lovingkindness. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to reconnect while on our own separate paths to opening our hearts to each other and our families.

This path continues to change my life, bring my family closer and give me the tools to continue on the journey to…. wherever it takes me. And it really doesn’t matter because it’s the journey that counts. I wouldn’t change a thing that got me to who I am and where I am today. I look forward to each day’s new adventures and opportunities to learn and grow.

From my 2013 Yoga Nidra Immersion training, 2017 Yoga Teacher Training at Laughing River Yoga, 2018 certification as a Breathing Normalization specialist, and most recently, to completing the End-of-Life Doula Certificate program at UVM, I humbly begin the next phase of my journey and I invite you along where I hope to share what I’ve learned in a very down- to-earth, practical way so that other’s may benefit.
